We check tire pressure, wear, thread depth, speed rating - and we make certain that your tires are the correct size. Perhaps the biggest mistake a customer can make when replacing tires is not using the correct size.
When pricing a new pair of tires, you will need to know your tires size. You can find your tire size printed on the side of the tire. This set of numbers contains a lot of information about the tire itself.
Let's use P225/50R16 as an example tire size
"P" represents its service type, which is a tire mainly used for vehicles that carry passengers.
"225" represents the width in millimeters between the widest parts of the sidewall of the tires
"50" represents the height from rim to tread. It is a percentage of the previous number ("225"). So, in this example, it is 50% of 225 mm.
"R" indicates the tire's construction type. In this example "R" means it's a radial tire. Your tire may be "R" radial, "D" diagonal, or "B" bias depending on how the rubber was put together to form the tire.
"16" is the wheel or rim size for the tire represented in inches. So, this wheel size is 16 inches.
In summary, P225/50R16 means it is a passenger tire that is 225 cm wide (side wall to side wall) and the height of your tire is 50% of 225 mm. It is radial tire that has a 16 inch rim.
Tires also have a speed rating which indicates the speed category (or range of speeds) at which the tire can carry a load under specified conditions. The speed rating system was developed in response to the need to control the safe performance of tires at standardized speeds. A letter from A to Z symbolizes a tire's certified speed rating, ranging from 3mph (5 km/h) to above 186 mph (300 km/h). Today, most tire sizes do not express a speed rating with the exception of Z-rated tires, which are rated for speed in excess of 149 mph.
